Never leave your space heaters unattended

I got a pretty scary call the other day from a good friend of mine. He called me up and he was freaking out. He was shouting that his house was on fire and that he didn’t know what to do. I asked him if he called the fire department and he stated that he already called them up and they were on the way. I decided to rush over to his place immediately to help him out. He was thankful when I finally showed up because he was freezing outside just watching the firefighters work on extinguishing the flames. I told him to hop in my car so he could warm up with the heating system. I couldn’t believe it, he was just out there in his pajamas and a coat that he grabbed before fleeing the house as it was going up in flames. He explained that he turned on his space heater and then decided to go take a shower. He said he should have known to turn off the space heater, but he forgot about it. The space heater was actually a little too close to his lounger and it caught on fire. When he hopped out of the shower, he smelled smoke and was alarmed when his living room was on fire. He quickly grabbed his pajamas that he was wearing before he hopped in the shower and put on his jacket and ran outside with his cellphone to call the fire department and then me. When the firefighters eventually were able to knock out the fire, the house sustained a great deal of damage. I guess this is a lesson my buddy had to learn the hard way not to leave space heaters unattended. At least he has fire insurance so the damages should be covered.
