Like with anything else, age makes you obsolete.
My company has been around for almost twenty years. I have seen my building costs slowly increase overtime. I started looking online at why it is costing me more to run my building. A common thing is that inefficient services in the building up the utility bills. My lights are not as efficient and are wasting energy. The HVAC unit is old and outdated. Even the plumbing is using more resources than it needs to. I started looking at examples of smart buildings and what they can do. It was impressive, the numbers were shocking and I was hooked on the idea. Finding the right company to do the energy retrofit was scary though. I had to find the right company that could basically tear my building down and make it work better. After a lot of research and talking on the phone, I found the company that I hired to do energy retrofit for my building. I mainly talked to one guy about what exactly I wanted automated and how I wanted the building to function. He recommended getting an integrated HVAC control system that senses when people are in their offices. It then will power off once they leave. He also stressed my lighting controls on a sensor and the plumbing to be totally redone. At the time I was nervous, now with the finished product I can’t believe I waited so long to upgrade. My building feels new, modern and saves me so much energy.
