I thought that it couldn’t possibly be as hot in the desert as everyone says, or no one would live there.
Unfortunately, I didn’t take into consideration that it was summer and everyone had excellent air conditioning if they lived there.
I was just going to visit for a few days. I wanted to save some money, so I decided to walk from my air conditioned hotel to the convention center. This was a big mistake. It didn’t seem so hot when I left, but I was under cover and not out in the sun. I walked a block and I had to go into a coffee shop to get some air conditioning. I wasn’t sure how much further the convention center was until I asked. They told me it was a short distance down the road. It would have been a short distance if I had been in a cab. Another block seemed like an eternity in the hot sun. I had to go into a second coffee shop to get to my destination. I was hot and sweaty till I got to the venue. I couldn’t eat anything because the heat had my stomach upset. Halfway through the presentation, the air conditioning went out and I was forced to sit in the hot building for another two hours. I called a cab to go back to the hotel, but I was already a goner. I passed out even before I got into the hotel. With the help of the air conditioning, I was feeling better by morning, but I didn’t ever want to visit the desert again.
