Memories of a cold childhood

My sister is always talking about the times when we would huddle on the couch, beneath the blankets.

She tells me that I have to remember those times, but I don’t.

She reminds of how we would wait for the furnace to turn on so we could get a little bit of heat that came from the air vents, and hold our fingers over it. We would then wrap back up in the blankets and watch more television until mom and dad got home from work. My sister was six years older than I and I was only six at the time. After that, we moved into a different home that mom and dad bought. We were no longer renting and subject to whatever HVAC the landlord gave us. We had a fairly modern heating and air conditioning system that was in the basement. I don’t remember the horrible HVAC from the other house, but I remember how nice the HvAC was in this one. The basement was so comfortable that dad would let us play down there. We could hear the furnace and the air conditioner when it turned on and shut off. The one time the furnace had a problem and I remember waking up to the house being cold. I thought it was funny to see my breath in front of my face. Dad had immediately called the HvAC company and had the furnace repaired within a couple of hours. He told us that we would never go with poor heating air conditioning for as long as he was alive.
