Staying cool on spring break

We were the goody-two-shoes that refused to “let loose”, as my fellow dorm students called us and our refusal to drink.

I was always the chosen designated driver.

But, this summer break, our motel will be on the beach, near several bars that cater to the younger crowd so there would be no place to drive to. Everyone expected me to drink, but I still was not interested even though I didn’t have to drive. It was warm in this coastal town we chose to visit, warmer than I expected. There were few clouds and the sun was hot. I got a sunburn on our first day there, despite using sun screen. The same thing happened to my friend Carla, so we decided to spend our second day out of the sun, preferably in air conditioning. We had a great time. We rode the trolley to a closed air-conditioned mall and stayed for lunch and a movie. The mall and move theater were colder than I expected. Although the cool air felt good on my burned skin, I could imagine what the electric bill was for that place. I’m always thinking about strange things like that.We were feeling better enough on day three to go back to the beach, as long as we wore t-shirts and stayed in the shade. No sunbathing for me and Carla. We still enjoyed the rest of our vacation. We did some swimming, boating and jet-skiing. We could enjoy the heat during the day because we knew we had cool, air-conditioned motel rooms to return to. We didn’t drink and “let loose” , but we goody-two-shoes had a great time.
