My husband and I just finished our basement last year after living in our house for over twenty years.
We planned on finishing it a long time ago, but we just kept putting it off, and we did not have a lot extra money to do it while the kids were still at home.
Now that the kids are grown and out of the house, we have more money to spend on remodeling our house. We decided to start with finishing the basement. It was a fun and long project. There were no windows down there, so it was a little dark and dingy. We decided to add a window. The best part about adding a window was being able to use an air conditioner down there. It never got super warm in the basement because it is a basement, but it got warm enough that we were a little uncomfortable. My husband is a big guy, so he likes it to be pretty cool in the house. We planned to spend a lot of time in the basement, so for him, air conditioning was necessary. We used an old air conditioner that we had upstairs in the attic last year, but it stopped working this summer, so we had to buy a new one. It took awhile for us to find an air conditioner for an affordable price. They cost a little more than we had expected them to. I am glad to have air conditioning down there once again. I am sure that my husband is too. He really did not like going without it for even a few days.
