My house is currently equipped with a forced air, natural gas heating system. The furnace is nearly twenty years old and starting to have problems. I’ve noticed that it needs to run a lot longer to maintain comfort levels. It struggles to meet the thermostat setting on especially cold winter days. The operational noise has gradually increased until the heater is slightly disruptive and annoying. I think there’s been an increase in the amount of dust circulating around, and I know there’s been a steady rise in my monthly energy bills. It’s definitely time to call an HVAC contractor and get an estimate on a new furnace. It will cost a small fortune and create a mess in the house. Once the new heating system is in place, it will save money on energy bills and improve comfort and air quality. I’ve been holding off because I don’t want another gas furnace. Since I already have the ductwork in place, I don’t really have another choice. It would be far too big, invasive and lengthy of a project to install a different style of heating system. I wish that I could buy a boiler heater and have radiant floor heating. I’d need to tear up all the floors in the house for the sake of the network of concealed pipes. The heating equipment would be entirely hidden. It wouldn’t take up space or detract from the appearance of my home. I wouldn’t need to arrange my furniture to accommodate heating vents. Plus, radiant floor heating operates silently and doesn’t introduce contaminants into the air. The heat is spread evenly across the floor, rises slowly and creates a more gentle and even comfort. It is also super energy efficient and allows for lower thermostat settings. I’d save a ton of money on heating costs.
