At least I won’t be going north again for the holidays.
I don’t like that it came to that, but enough is just enough.
Since I’ve been married, my partner and I have gone up north to her parent’s beach house for Christmas. I always feel weird going north in the winter for obvious reasons. I go through a blistering Summer with all sorts of air conditioners just to love the winter. Then I take 3 weeks of our limited trip time to go to the cold while in the best time of year at home. I know I’ve been stewing on this for some time. However, I’m also the sort of guy who regularly tries to make the best of things. Plus, it’s my wife’s family and I’d do anything for her. But Christmas trip 13 will be the last time. My wife’s mom rules the roost in her beach house with an iron fist. And just days into our trip, she lost her cool on me for asking to lower the control component a bit. She keeps that beach house so tepid in the winter that I’m dripping with sweat if I’m wearing anything more than underwear. Well, she completely freaked out at the suggestion that I was uncomfortable. And it went downhill from there. My partner and I got through Christmas day and ended up leaving a day early. On the way home, I was frank with my partner that I won’t be going back. It wasn’t so much a discussion as it was a declaration on my part. So Christmas going forward is going to be the best. I’ll be in the sun with sizzling temperatures and enjoying our own control component any way I want it. But mostly, the heat pump is simply off during winter and that’s wonderful for me.
