I am a procrastinator who likes to pretend that I’m just really thinking things through.
This has been my default when it comes to making decisions for years.
When I was a kid, I would wait forever to actually decide on the topic of a paper for class. And then, it would be an all out effort inside the central air conditioning to then get it done. The only difference now is that I couch my indecision in due diligence. Well, it’s all a bunch of hooey because I just don’t want to make a decision. And when it came to replacing the HVAC equipment, I was particularly stuck. We are lucky to have a great HVAC company that has looked after our HVAC equipment since we’ve lived here. They were the ones to install the residential HVAC when we bought this house almost 25 years ago. And all along, we’ve gotten plenty of HVAC maintenance every year. After the heating maintenance this past fall, the HVAC technician told me it was time to start thinking about a replacement. Of course, that froze me right in my tracks because that meant making a decision. I even brought my wife into the discussion and she promptly figured out what I was doing. She was not going to be responsible for making the choice when it came to our new residential HVAC. So finally, I turned to the HVAC professionals for guidance and I got just the help I needed. After one meeting with the HVAC contractor, I knew exactly what we wanted when it came to the heating and cooling needs of our home. And I actually made a decision!
