I hid from the HVAC technician.

Mom called the HVAC company to have some work done on the furnace.

She asked if I would stay home that day until the HVAC technician arrived.

He was to be there by 10 AM, but she reminded me he had a three-hour window for arrival. When I heard the knock on the door around 11 AM, I looked out the window. My first thought was to hide from the HVAC technician. I stood there breathing hard, and I heard the second knock. The HVAC technician was my crush from high school, and I had never truly gotten over him. I took a deep breath, hoping he didn’t recognize me. When I opened the door, he showed me his badge, and I didn’t see a flicker of recognition in his eyes. I showed him to the furnace room and went back to work. Working from home gave me the ease of working from anywhere. I was sitting at the kitchen table when Mike came upstairs. He said he had to get a part from the service van, and he would be right back. I realized I had changed my hair color and lost about fifteen pounds since high school. We were also living in another part of town, and he quite possibly did not know who I was. When he came back from working on the furnace, he sat down to explain the furnace repairs to me. I was getting ready to thank him when he leaned back and told me he loved the hair and he thought I looked amazing. Next thing I knew, the HVAC technician was asking me out on a date, and I was accepting.
