It would be just my luck that the new heating and cooling equipment that I had installed was defective.
This is the first thing my mind went to when I got my utility bill last May. For sure, I was not executing to see such a huge number. And that was only for a month of spring. For sure, moving this far south during the winter is the way to do it. We left a situation where it was freezing and the gas furnace was on all the time. We arrived to a home whose old heat pump didn’t even need to be on most of the time. That gave us time to get the new and latest residential HVAC installed before the temperatures climbed. The heat pump had one of the highest SEER ratings we could get so it was going to be super efficient to run. And then, I got that utility bill that was enormous. The HVAC professionals came out and confirmed that it wasn’t the heat pump. It was us and the fact that we had no window treatments so the direct sunlight heating was killing the HVAC efficiency. The HVAC professionals gave us some knowledge there and we had solar shades installed that actually sync with our smart thermostat. This made all the difference when it came to air conditioning costs.
