I was at the cabin for a couple of days, getting it cleaned up for the spring.
My brother and I go to the mountains every spring so we can fish on the first day of trout season.
The water is cold and clear in the creek, and it is perfect for trout fishing. The first thing I needed to do was clean the fireplace so we could stay warm through the weekend. I took the wood from the hearth and built a fire after cleaning the chimney and the fireplace hearth. It was warm and cheery in the cabin, even though I was there alone. When I got up in the morning, I needed another log for the fireplace but there were no logs inside, or out. I didn’t want to go in the snow and dig for logs, so I ended up going home. I really wanted to stay for the rest of the weekend, but I couldn’t stay here if I couldn’t keep the fireplace burning. I didn’t want to cut through ice and dig for logs, and I didn’t want to go out in the woods to cut wood. I decided to pack things up and go back home. When my brother asked how the weekend was, I told him it went well. We would need to go up early on Friday to cut wood for the fireplace, but the place was clean and ready to be used. He laughed at my choice of words. He said that in other words, I used all the wood on Friday night and came home so I didn’t need to cut more wood for the fireplace. I said nothing.
