My youth was spent around airplanes.
Getting on a flight was like going for a car trip when I was little.
Although, it was definitely a fancy car trip because I had to wear really nice clothes. But, I was no more afraid of getting on a plane than I was riding in the back of the family station wagon. My dad was a pilot for a big airline. So, there was a lot of air travel for me. I remember being so comfortable on those planes. The HVAC was good and there was always that blasting air from the nozzle above your head. Now, I very unwillingly get on an airplane. I just hate air travel now. It is rife with so many uncomfortable elements. Beyond all the cancellations and the security hassles, the plane itself is just so completely uncomfortable. The HVAC doesn’t seem to be powerful enough to handle all the human bodies they pack in there like cattle. It just ends up being a cramped, hot and uncomfortable several hours. The airport terminal’s HVAC is no better. After sweating for hours on one flight, I have to then freeze at the gate while awaiting a connecting flight. It seems as though every airport has the HVAC cooling dialed up to maximum. Perhaps this is an attempt at balancing the heat of the plane ride. I’m not so sure but, I know that going to the extremes of the HVAC comfort settings is not the best path to customer comfort. Now, if at all possible, I drive to wherever it is that I want to go. Air travel is just such an utter disappointment now that I just think I’ll pass unless I’m heading out of the country.
