This summer has been excruciatingly hot compared to the last one.
The radiant heat is so extreme and UV rays so strong that I’m afraid to go to the beach and enjoy the water.
I get severe sunburn that turns into devil’s itch if I’m exposed without sunscreen for longer than 30 minutes. That’s all it takes to give me a debilitating sunburn. And I’m not overexaggerating when I say debilitating, as I get a conditioner that is often referred to as “devil’s itch.” If I get a severe sunburn, which usually happens within an hour of direct sun exposure, I will get severe neuropathy pains in my skin on the second or third day that feel like a hot needle stabbing me over and over. It’s horrible, and I cannot stress enough how much I hate getting this condition because nothing quells the inevitable pain. Thankfully it has been really cloudy out over the past week and I’ve taken advantage of this time to be outside more. I got my lawn mowed and my house painted again after putting it off for two years straight. Not only am I getting less sun exposure, but my air conditioner is running a lot less as well. When there is constant radiant heat from the sun, it makes it a lot hotter inside and thus the air conditioner has to run longer to keep the temperatures where I want them to be based on my thermostat settings. If the sun is shrouded by clouds, that’s a lot of radiant heat that is removed from the equation altogether.
