I don’t like getting on ladders for any reason. When I was a kid I got on a ladder and climbed onto my family roof, but like a cat stuck in a tree I couldn’t figure out how to get onto the ladder to descend to the ground safely. Instead, I stumbled trying to get back onto the ladder and it slipped, throwing me directly into the bushes in front of our house. Luckily, the bushes and shrubs broke my fall and I wasn’t injured in the process. Ever since this happened, I have been afraid of getting on a ladder again. Unfortunately, there are times when I don’t have a choice and need to get on one regardless of my fears and reservations. To avoid paying hundreds of dollars in hiring painters to paint the exterior of my house, I did the work myself. While being on a ladder was scary, it was a lot better than draining my bank account. For a while I had to get on a ladder to replace my air conditioner filter, but that’s no longer the case. I have an air handler that sits in a closet now instead of being in my attic. I can access the filter tray just by opening a closet door in my main hallway. Now I don’t have excuses for forgetting HVAC filter changes like I used to. I also like getting my air conditioner filters in bulk on the internet so I save a little in the long run on air conditioner and furnace usage. Whenever the HVAC system is running there is air passing through the filter and a chance for dust and other small particles to gather on the surfaces.
