I am always unhappy with the cost of our household energy bills, however for a while, it seemed as if every week the amount I owed was a bit higher. I made sure all of the windows and doors were shut tight. I went around and added caulk and weatherstripping. I replaced the insulation in the attic and installed ceiling fans. I invested in a smart control unit. I also observed that despite paying sizable heating and cooling bills, my house wasn’t perfectly comfortable. The oil furnace ran just about non stop all Wintertide and yet most of the rooms felt cold. The cooling system struggled to keep up with demand in the summer. Certain areas of the house were downright overheated and sticky, and there were complications with dust and other contaminants circulating in the air. The whole house had a musty smell. I finally busy repair with a licensed Heating and Air Conditioning dealer. When I explained the problems with the oil furnace and cooling system, he instantly suspected that the air duct was to blame. A test of the duct proposal revealed energy losses of 30%. Nearly a sixth of the heated and cooled air was escaping through various holes and leaks at the seams. Dirty, unconditioned air was getting drawn into the air duct and circulated throughout the house. Fortunately, there is a duct sealing process that works from the inside of the pipes. Since the proposal is concealed inside walls, ceilings and crawl spaces, it isn’t self-explanatory to access. The specialist clogged off all of the supply and return vents. He then introduced highly pressurized air into the system. As this air leaked out of the imperfections, sticky polymer particles caught on the edges and steadily congealed to form a slim seal. The process took a couple of hours however caused no fumes, left behind no residue and created no mess or mangle. Duct sealing has significantly reduced household expenses.
