Recently, I chose to read the coldfire trilogy by C.
S.
Friedman, one of my favorite series. Of course, I did this with the comfort of my fireplace when I started. I love nothing more than reading all kinds of different books in front of the fireplace. I also have a smart HVAC system so I can easily adjust the temperature control settings as needed while I am enjoying my books. So this series, it’s basically about a priest who’s all about doing his duties for the church and helping others and keeping people safe from the dangers of the world. They don’t live on the Earth, but another planet that was settled long ago. This is a world that has currents that can be manipulated by gifted adepts for healing, visions, and other such things. These currents can also be weaponized and at times very dangerous to work depending on the circumstances of the environment. When the priest in this series meets an adept that he falls for, and some demon-like creatures steal her abilities, the priest goes on a quest to take them out and help his lady to restore her ability. They end up running into another adept with incredible ability, far more powerful than any other the priest has ever encountered. This powerful adept turns out to be the original prophet of the church who committed some monstrous grave sins to extend his life past 1,000 years. He has to abide by the rules of the ones who granted him his unique abilities, which are demonic in nature and he must live something like a vampire like drinking blood and other ways of feeding which involve manipulations of dreams creating fear. It’s such a wild series, I tell you, you won’t be disappointed upon reading this trilogy.
