I love what I do for a living.
And what’s so weird is that I sort of trusted my passions and feeling when I was in college.
I new that going to the zone controlled comfort of some corporate office each day was not what I was looking for. For me, I really was looking to make a decent living while also helping my fellow man. Just trying to make rich people richer in the zone controlled HVAC of a posh downtown office wasn’t going to get it done. I also really had the desire to be in the field as much as I was sitting at a desk. My studies were in design and architecture and I graduated from a good school. Still, I turned down the offers that would have put me in the air conditioning of some office. Instead, I started working for more non-profit ventures in the public sector. Now, I’m all about turning the old into the new for people who need it. Specifically, my work turns old, run down buildings into affordable housing for people who don’t make all that much money. Recently, we just finished a pretty amazing project that turned an old department store into apartments. However, there were some challenges just as there always are when it comes to this line of work. But we were able to solve those quality heating and air problems with ductless heat pumps. Instead of using central air conditioning which would have been super costly, we went with ductless heat pumps in all of the apartments. Now, each apartment can customize their heating and cooling and we kept the price down so the rent stays affordable.
