Changing a mindset can help with HVAC cooling savings this summer

I love to see newcomers to the area.

And it’s especially awesome when it’s folks coming down here from up north.

Those are the people who are smiling the most during the winter. But wouldn’t anyone be smiling after ditching a gas furnace and all that cold? I don’t know how people live up there anyway. I simply can’t deal with any sort of winter that needs more than a heat pump to manage the cold. Where I live, the heat pump barely even comes on during our ultra mild winter. Still, those same big smiles from the newly transplanted tend to turn to frowns in the summer. Folks just don’t know how to handle the heat and humidity of this area. And I understand. I’ve lived here all my life and I still get a bit overwhelmed by the summer heat. However, the thing I don’t do is hide inside the air conditioning for four straight months. That’s crazy but I see people who are new to the area do it all the time. They crank the HVAC cooling too early in the spring and then just hide inside for months and months. It’s just too beautiful around here to do that. And, it’s completely unnecessary as well. I recommend to those coming to this region to simply embrace the heat during the spring. Don’t crank the air conditioning until the summer heat gets here. That helps the body acclimate and a bit of air conditioning go a lot further than paying for the HVAC cooling to be running night and day.
