Fighting over whether it’s wise or not to work on your own HVAC equipment

I’m not even sure how my buddies and I got into an argument, but we all started fighting over whether it was smart to work on your own HVAC equipment.

  • Some friends were saying that it was foolish because you automatically void the warranty for your expensive equipment.

They said you had to make sure the HVAC ran smoothly until the warranty was done, and then maybe you could work on the equipment if you were confident you could repair it. I said the HVAC should always be worked on by qualified professionals, because it was risky work. I pointed out that if you don’t know what you’re doing, you could be electrocuted, break something important, or even do something incorrectly like installing the wrong part that is needed. There were so many things that could go wrong, so why not always call the HVAC experts for regular maintenance and repair? We all couldn’t agree on these facts. Some buddies were saying they had worked on their HVAC systems with no issues and the HVAC professionals typically charged too much money. I had to tell everybody that if they enrolled in service maintenance plans like I did, they would save a considerable amount of money with zero headaches. Then one buddy said that he bet I couldn’t even repair my HVAC no matter how hard I tried. I have to admit, this riled me up a little bit and I said I could if I wanted to. I worked on car engines all the time, so I knew about working on machinery. I was almost ready to work on my own HVAC to prove I could do it, when another friend said it wasn’t worth it, and then I came back to reality and said I wouldn’t void my HVAC warranty by doing something stupid.
