When I spoke to some friends about energy saving tips, I was able to learn a few things.
This was when I first became a homeowner, so this was mostly new territory for me.
One of the first things I had to learn was how to tighten up the house so as to prevent HVAC treated air from getting outside. I learned that it’s necessary to put plastic on the windows to help prevent energy loss. It’s also good to use a humidifier. I had no clue that a humidifier could make it feel so much more comfortable inside the household during the winter, but it really makes a difference. When you are using the humidifier, you can actually afford to adjust the thermostat by a few degrees to save money and you don’t lose hardly any comfort while saving on the energy bills. One friend said that I needed to focus on cooking outdoors more during the hot season and inside during the winter. This wasn’t something I would have thought about, but it’s a very good energy saving tip. My buddy said if you do have to cook inside in the hot season, you should use the microwave more or possibly an indoor grill like the George Foreman type. I actually have one of those grills and I was excited to use it instead of cranking on the stove all the time. I do get outside to grill often though in the summer because it’s just something I enjoy doing. I hope one day, I will be able to hand down some energy saving tips to my kids.
