There are some calls that are strange to get at night, & then there are the WEIRD ones, that you assume must be a prank.
This happened three weeks ago, around 4 a.m.
so of course I was sleeping. It was the actual phone line that I use for work, with the emergency on-call number, so I had to answer it in case it easily was an emergency. On the other end of the line was a British guy who was shouting about the tour bus having a sizable setback. They were waiting for me at the shop, and when I heard it was an air conditioner setback I was about to hang up on him. He then said he would give me approximately 5 hundred bucks cash just to take a look at it. This was a guy who easily knew how to get what he wanted, & thirty minutes after that I was on that tour bus looking at the thermostat. More accurately, I was looking at where the thermostat ought to be, because now it was just a hole in the wall. This was the tour bus for a rock & roll band, 1 that I had never heard of, & they made the choice to repair their own AC problem by taking off the thermostat & throwing it out the window. First I installed a modern thermostat, a smart 1, & then I did a diagnostic on the central HVAC appliance itself. I have to say the cooling appliance for this bus was very large! It ended up being a straight-forward fix, & straight-forward cash pretty much.
