There are weird calls to get at night, and then there are the WEIRD ones, that you assume must be a prank.
This happened three weeks ago, around 4 a.m.
so of course I was dead asleep. It was the phone that I use for work, with the emergency on-call number, so I had to answer it in case it really was an emergency. On the other end of the line was a British guy who was shouting about the tour bus having a huge problem, and they were waiting for me at the shop. When I heard it was an air conditioning problem I was about to hang up on him, but then he offered me five hundred bucks cash just to take a look at it. This was a guy who knew how to get what he wanted, and thirty minutes later I was on that tour bus looking at the thermostat. More accurately, I was looking at where the thermostat should be, because now it was just a hole in the wall. This was the tour bus for a rock and roll band, one that I had never heard of, and they decided to fix their own AC problem by tearing off the thermostat and throwing it out the window. First I installed a new thermostat, a smart one, and then I did a diagnostic on the central system itself. I have to say the air conditioner for this bus was twice as large as the one I use in my home! It ended up being an easy fix, and easy money.
