We’ve had our HVAC system for about a decade.
We have done all the important things with maintenance like making sure the ductwork system is cleaned regularly and keeping up with air filter changes.
More recently, we have been using HEPA filters which work so much better than ordinary air filters. The air quality has been better than ever in our home. I was stressed a little though when the HVAC professional recently told us that we had to think about upgrading to a new HVAC system soon. When he saw the look of concern on my face, he said I didn’t necessarily have to rush to get a new HVAC, but after a decade of working, it would be a smart move to upgrade to a new HVAC system that is far more energy efficient. He said I would save a lot of money on the energy bills and I certainly wouldn’t have to worry about dealing with any serious repairs. He said with an HVAC system that is this old, I might have some expensive repairs coming up. He said it could be anything from worn parts or even problems with the ductwork system. He said sometimes holes and rips develop in the ductwork and whole sections have to be replaced at times. When I spoke to him about some of his recommendations, he said it was always a good idea to go for a ductless HVAC system. He said how these systems are actually cheaper to have installed and they last a good 20 years or so. That actually sounds good to me and I have been starting to work on the savings. I think I might just go for a ductless mini split in the near future, especially after hearing how energy efficient these systems are.
