I dislike that I lost my job and with it, a fantastic deal of my newfound independence.
I’m just a few years into my first job after college.
That job was a fantastic 1 and even directly related to my degree and my passion. But thanks to Covid, that cubicle in the zone controlled HVAC of that office is gone. Like most other businesses, Covid brought with it layoffs and payroll reductions. And like several before me, the last 1s in are normally the first 1s out. That held true in my situation. This also meant that I had to let go of my home and the not so fantastic heating and cooling I had there. This was tough to do as I absolutely liked being out on my own, living my own life. But luckily, I had a soft landing at my parents’ locale. They are super kind to have opened up their loft to myself and others in my time of need. And I tried to give back by helping my Mom finally complete the basement project she’d be laboring at for years. Now that she’s retired and with a minute set of hands, the basement is getting finished off into an absolutely nice apartment. Recently every one of us finished a major part of that by putting in heating and cooling equipment. Well actually, every one of us called the HVAC supplier and they sent out an HVAC supplier who inspected the upgrade. The basement now has a pair of ductless heat pumps and is completely independent of the rest of the house. It turned out fantastic and who knows, maybe they can rent it out in the future to people like me.
