We are very close to making it to the finish line when it comes to the heat and humidity of summer.
In our region, the summer is our toughest weather and temperature challenge.
But, I’ll take a long, hot summer over a cold winter and all that gas furnace mess. I’ve tried the weather up north and it so didn’t go well. Seriously, I just don’t know how people live up there and endure that much cold weather and lack of sunshine. I did it for 3 winters and then came running for the south, the sun and the heat pump. Still, this region comes with a lot of air conditioning. In fact, the HVAC cooling will often kick on a bit starting in March. And it will run until at least November. However, it’s the four month stretch of summer that really takes the cake when it comes to heat and air conditioning. Basically, the air conditioner runs throughout the day and night. So this can result in some very serious utility bills if you’re not careful. I make sure I’m a bit proactive when it comes to air conditioning bills. The house is sealed up tight to keep the cooling comfort inside and the heat outside. Then, I make sure that the windows that get the sun through the day are covered up. Just stopping the direct sunlight heating makes a huge difference. But the main way to control the cost of HVAC cooling is to have some good thermostat discipline. Putting all of these elements together really makes a significant impact on how much I have to spend for HVAC cooling.
