It proved to be faulty
My dad was that guy who saw something in the house which needed fixing and grabbed his toolbox. There was simply no question in his mind that he could repair whatever wasn’t working in the house. This led to my mom making a few phone calls to service people behind dad’s back. The old man would just tear into something and then leave it. He had to know mom was calling someone but, he never mentioned it. I wonder how many times she had to pay extra for dad’s further breaking something. I reached for my toolbox the other day when the HVAC heating system stopped working. Boy, I wish I hadn’t. I suppose it was some sort of manly stupidness which drove me to have a look at something I knew virtually nothing about. Then, I saw an obvious broken part right in front of me. I checked online to find out it was a valve switch. So, I went and got the valve switch. I replaced the fried part with the new one and the furnace fired right back up. I could not clap myself on the back enough. Two weeks later, the furnace performed some sort of emergency shut down. The part I put in was not a factory original part. It proved to be faulty. But unlike the OEM part, this thing allowed the furnace to get so hot it cracked the core of the furnace. Not only had I totalled the furnace but I also voided the warranty by working on it myself. A bit of stupid ended up costing me thousands of dollars out of my own pocket.
