If there’s one thing that my parents love, it’s feeling like they got a good deal on something.
They are always spending money on things that they don’t really need, simply because they think that they are going to get a good deal. I keep telling them that just because something is on sale, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they need to buy it. A good example of this would be last summer when the local heating and cooling company had a big sale on their central air conditioning units. My parents had just updated their HVAC system a few years before, and so they definitely didn’t need a new central A/C. However, since the HVAC company was offering almost forty percent off of their previous year’s air conditioning models, my mom and dad feel for their marketing scheme. I have to hand it to the HVAC company’s advertising company. They really came up with a good marketing plan. It worked like a charm on my parents. They ended up completely replacing their air conditioning system even though it was completely unnecessary to do so. And not only that, but my mom talked my dad into buying a window unit air conditioner for his workshop out in the garage, even though he’s worked in that shop without A/C for the past thirty years. Those people certainly do like getting a good deal. I hope for their sake that the HVAC company doesn’t run any more ads in the near future. They won’t need to make any other upgrades to their heating and cooling system for at least ten more years, at this point!
