My wife and I have two children and both of them are in high school.
This year, our daughter turned sixteen and she is the first child to start driving.
My wife and I hold our breath every time she leaves the house. She’s a good driver, but we still worry a great deal. When our daughter turned 16, my wife and I would not allow her to get a driver’s license unless she had a part-time job. Insurance on teenagers is extremely high and we wanted her to be responsible for paying half of the cost. My daughter applied at many different local restaurants, but of course she got hired by the same pizza owner that I worked for as a kid. I’m sure the owner saw her name and recognized me. I worked there for 3 years before I went to college full time. When my daughter started working there, one of her first complaints was the lack of air conditioning in the kitchen. There was no air conditioning in the kitchen when I worked in the same pizza shop. I thought they would have fixed the air conditioning problem in 20 years, but it was the same owner and the same problems. I am really proud of my daughter for sticking it out and continuing to work there. She earns enough money to pay for insurance and gas. It’s a good job and the owner is really flexible with scheduling. If it wasn’t for the lack of cool air in the kitchen the job would be perfect.
