My kids love going to the zoo even when it’s freezing outside

I think that my kids love animals more than any other kids on the planet.

  • They love stuffed animals, reading about animals, and watching documentaries about animals.

But more than anything else, my kids love going to the zoo. Not a week goes by when they aren’t begging me to go to the zoo. It takes us about twenty minutes to get there, so it’s not really that big of a deal to go. The only problem that I have with going is that the kids want to go whenever there are extreme temperatures outside. Whenever the weather is heating up in the summer, they always want to go. The problem with that is that at the zoo there is no air conditioning. Of course, I can deal with the lack of A/C for a little while during the summer. That’s especially true in the mornings when the weather isn’t really heating up that much. But not only do the kids want to go in the scorching summer heat, they also want to go in the wintertime when it’s freezing outside! I can handle the heat much better than I can the cold. Last year, my kids begged to go to the zoo when the temperatures outside were in the single digits! It was the craziest thing. I finally ended up taking them and we froze our butts off in the cold. At least the zoo does have those big portable outdoor gas heaters spaced strategically throughout the zoo. I felt especially sorry for the animals who are designed for living in the desert or right on the equator! They were used to hot weather, not suited for the freezing cold. I think I’m going to have to put my foot down and tell my kids we’re going where it’s heated and air conditioned and nowhere else!
