I have a place way, way back in the woods. This is a small place that has been in our family for years. My ancestors used it as a hunting lodge and that’s all it had ever been until it was passed down to me. I’m the only heir and so what happened to the hunting lodge was up to me. I decided to live in it. That’s right. And I even have quality heating and air out here. I don’t know what exactly was the tipping point for my decision. But getting out of the city and basically off the grid is appealing at least for now. It took some rehab but the place is now not only liveable but it’s actually quite nice. Friends and I did the vast majority of the work ourselves. But it turned out really nice. I had to pay two professionals dearly to come out and do stuff we couldn’t handle. One was an electrician and one was an HVAC professional. The electrician wired the house and wired up the solar array I put on the roof for energy. It’s more than enough to power my needs. The HVAC professional came out and installed a ductless mini split for heating and air. It’s mostly for HVAC cooling as the heating will be done by the big wood stove that’s been there since before I was a kid. I am quite pleased with the ductless heat pump as it keeps the place really comfortable in the hot summer. So far, I’m really enjoying my choice. There really isn’t quite anything like living this way for sure.
