The cause of my allergies was underneath my house

Last spring, I started experiencing terrible allergy symptoms.

I felt like I was constantly sneezing, my eyes were itchy, and every morning I was waking up with completely stuffed and swollen sinuses.

I was trying all the medication I could find, over the counter, and even prescription medications, but my symptoms weren’t going away. My partner noticed that my symptoms seemed to be worse when I was in my home, so we vacuumed everything, dusted everything, changed the air conditioner filter and cleaned all the vents. We even bought a special shampoo for our dog just in case my reaction was coming from him, but nothing seemed to work. One day, our HVAC technician came to do some maintenance and conduct an inspection of our system. While in the crawl space underneath my house, the technician noticed that one of the ducts had become detached from the system, and that the air was being drawn from directly underneath the house, and not going through the filter. The HVAC technician explained the problem, then went to his truck to get some tools and went back under the house to fix the problem. I could tell when the ductwork was attached again because my whole house immediately smelled like dirt, and in that moment, I finally realized where my allergy problems were coming from! I changed my air filter, and the next morning I woke up feeling better than I had in months! It seemed like overnight, all of my allergies had disappeared. Now I am sure to have my HVAC system inspected regularly so that I never have to deal with that again.
