Last winter at the end of the season, my wife and I found out that our Furnace needed to be replaced. Since the cold weather was almost over, my wife and I decided to wait until the next winter season to make the replacement. We use the fireplace and a space heater for the rest of the winter. Now it is the end of the summer and I am starting to think about the furnace replacement. I called a couple of different places this week so I could get estimates for the equipment and the installation prices. The prices for the new furnace are higher than they were last year. I didn’t expect the cost of the furnace to be $600 higher. We probably should have replaced the furnace at the end of the cold season last year, instead of the beginning of the season this year. Now we have no choice except to pay the high prices. Since we are going to spend a chunk of money, my wife and I have decided to upgrade to a more energy efficient furnace. The AFUE rating is a number that tells the buyer how efficiently the machine will perform. The higher the AFUE rating, the more energy efficient the machine will be. We should be able to save money each month on the energy bills and that will help us pay for the new furnace.
