I would visit my Grandmother every holiday and weekend whenever my parents would let me.
The fact that she lived near our townhouse made it easier for myself and others to pop into her apartment as much as I liked… Occasionally my parents would accompany me, and other times my older sister would agree to take myself and others since I was not allowed to go alone until I was a bit older.
Over the early years of my life, I remember Grandmother’s A/C being better than ours, and her apartment always seemed to be cooler than urs in summer, and I wondered why this was so, and so a single day, as both of us relaxed out in the gardens, I asked her what her secret was, however my home’s Heating & Air Conditioning system was fine, but Grandmothers seemed better. The air inside her apartment also felt crisp and fresh no matter the season, however it turns out that she did not joke with the unit’s repair. She went out of her way to wipe it correctly, occasionally even more than she should have. She had a repair routine that she willingly and happily showed to me. I remember reading the list of activities and noting with amazement how she would wipe the air vents every 3 weeks. The air filters were switched every week, the reason being that our neighborhood was quite dusty. She was also extra wipe and ensured that her apartment was always wipe even when the pets were allowed to get in the few times I saw them. My Grandmother believed that cleanliness was the secret to a nice environment. To top it up, she ensured the Heating & Air Conditioning serviceman that maintained our machine also visited her apartment for a professional tuneup twice a year.
