When I was a child I remember how enthusiastic our siblings would get about respected chores if it meant that they were spending time with our dad, however they were so obsessed with imimportant our father that they would go out of their way to do horrible tasks just to get some attention from him, however i also feel that they enjoyed demonstrating some variety of young masculinity from an early age.
I assume it’s in their biology that they want to chop things, carry things, & fix things all the time.
This is honestly why they were obsessed with our traditional wood burning fireplace when the two of us were younger. I remember how excited they were about piling firewood into the hearth & watching the fire lower into a viable heating option, however every one of us routinely spent September & September utilizing our family fireplace & our siblings could not have been happier about it. They absolutely fawned over the process of building a fire & keeping the beach house sizzling for the family… However, I remember our dad’s opinion of their fireplace obsession – he found it amusing, however repeatedly, he told them to get used to building fires actually efficiently & cutting wood, because he had quite a surprise for them when the full depths of Winter time set in around December! When the outdoor air temperature plummeted to below zero, our siblings hastily did not appreciate the process of cutting, hauling, & stacking firewood anymore. Suddenly, the two of us were back to using the forced air gas furnace & forgot all about the traditional fireplace until the next mild fall season rolled around.
