This is a big place where HVAC treated air can escape
We’re still enjoying the winter. And yes, you read that right. Where I live, we actually are happy to have the winter months. That’s because it doesn’t come with any snow, ice or freezing temps. Sure, we’ll get a few cold snaps that require putting on the HVAC heat pump. But really, that’s about it. Our winter is actually a bit of a respite. In this region, we are challenged by the heat and humidity of the summer months. However, the heat comes on about March and that keeps the HVAC cooling running until at least November. So when the winter months are upon us, we all take a collective deep breath and embrace the cooler weather. Yet, just as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow, the heat will be back. And if you don’t have an HVAC cooling strategy to save on the utility bill, it can get mighty expensive. My HVAC savings strategy starts this time of year. This is when I have the HVAC people come out to inspect and service the heating & cooling unit. It all starts with HVAC equipment that is running at its most efficient. Then, I check the exterior of the house to be sure there aren’t any gaps that would let cool air out and warm air in. I also make certain that the weather stripping is in good shape on all the doors and sliders. This is a big place where HVAC treated air can escape. Once the heat sets in, then it’s time to make sure we stay disciplined with the HVAC setting.
