Don’t forget the ductwork when replacing the HVAC

This house is almost like a part of the family.

That is a weird thing to say and I fully understand that a house is not a sentient being.

However, from the time we moved in, I have felt like it was more than just a place to live. We’ve seen a lot over all of these years. Our kids growing up to be great adults is one of the most precious memories. And our house along with the HVAC always kept us safe and comfortable. The house was built in the late 50’s and the structure and design are of the highest quality. It will still be taking care of families long after we’re gone. It has been changed a bit of course. The HVAC was an upgrade that was put in during the early 70’s. We replaced the heating & cooling unit when we bought it just over 20 years ago. And we are now replacing that one. It’s time and we knew it was coming. The HVAC tech was great about sort of giving us a years heads up so we could plan and save for the eventual replacement. However, when we had the HVAC contractor come out for the initial inspection and consultation, we got some unexpected news. The HVAC contractor told us that the ductwork system was too old and too narrow to support today’s HVAC models. That meant that we were looking at having to replace the air duct system. Fortunately, it’s quite accessible due to it having been put in after the original construction.
