They said they didn’t work with window AC units because they considered it disposal electronics.
My father had three strict rules for me to follow when doing my own home repairs. He said I should touch nothing electrical. I should never try to fix the plumbing. He also said that if I had problems with the HVAC system, I should call the HVAC company. His last words of wisdom to me were when in doubt I should call a professional. I didn’t know if he was just telling me to keep my hands out of where they don’t belong, or just not to touch anything. That seemed to be his attitude when we were growing up. He didn’t think we should ever touch anything, and he would never tell us anything about what he did. Dad was a handyman, but he wouldn’t pass on his knowledge. When I moved into my house, I was sure I could do nothing for myself. When I called my brother about my light switch, he showed me how to repair it, but he was just like dad and said to leave it to the professional. Then, when my window air conditioning unit broke, the HVAC company wouldn’t touch it. They said they didn’t work with window AC units because they considered it disposal electronics. I didn’t want to dispose of mine, so I tried to repair it myself. Unfortunately, I broke the AC unit so badly that there was no way they could repair it. I ended up going to town and purchasing a new window AC unit, but only until my central AC system was delivered and installed.
