The general store was a colossal flop

We recently visited what was said to be the world’s largest general store.

I swore I would never believe another billboard again.

We took a twenty mile detour, only to see what looked like an old west carnival setting. There were tents everywhere and boards laid down to walk on between the tents. The ground was muddy and I almost didn’t want to get out of the car. Since we had already gone the twenty miles, I swallowed my doubts and got out of the car. It was the middle of July and it had been raining all day. The sun was now out, which had steam coming off the mud and it smelled moldy. I was tempted to hold my nose, but my husband grabbed my hand. It was already hot and humid outside, and he said that it should be cooler inside the tents. We got into the tent and I couldn’t believe that it wasn’t cooler, but much hotter. The heat and humidity was so oppressive that it nearly took my breath away. I asked the people why they didn’t have air conditioning? The counter clerk said that it would cost more to air condition the tent, than they could afford. I told her that we would come back to the general when the mud dried up and they had air conditioners. I was sure this wasn’t the first time she had heard this sentiment. She smiled and told me that hopefully she would see me in two years when the tents were replaced with real buildings. Hopefully they will have air conditioning when this happens.
