Last Summer, we had three hurricanes in a row hit the area.
- The first hurricane was only a category 1 when it hit our neighborhood.
We had a lot of rain and wind, but most of the damages were minor. The second category 1 hurricane caused more damages. It was a slow moving storm that dropped twelve inches of rain. The third hurricane that hit our neighborhood was a very strong category 2 when it touched. We had 12 hours of study in nonstop rain and we had wind gusts up to 120 miles an hour. The storm damage was severe in many areas, including my neighborhood. My wife and I have a house that backs up to the river. The river was already very high due to the first two storms. After we received rain from the third storm, the banks of the river were completely and totally flooded. My wife and I had several inches of water in our basement. Water covered the bottom of our furnace and it took three days for the flooded water to drain. After all at the water drain, my wife and I had to clean up the mess. There was mud and debris all over the basement and the furnace. I was particularly worried about the furnace, since it was under water. I thought it was a good idea to call the heating company so they could perform a tune-up and diagnostic check. I thought the furnace might need to be replaced, but I was happily surprised that the water did not cause any damages.
