The master bedroom in my home always tended to be overheated in the summer and a bit chilly in the winter.
We handle our household heating and cooling with a forced air furnace and a central air conditioner that relies on ductwork.
When I make an adjustment to the thermostat, it affects the entire house. I looked into zone control but the HVAC system is too old to accommodate it. Since the furnace and air conditioner operate just fine, I’m unwilling to replace the equipment and take out a loan to cover the cost for the sake of the master bedroom. For several years, I improved comfort with a portable air conditioner in the window, electric space heaters and electric blankets. I wasn’t thrilled with this solution. The portable air conditioner blocked the view from the window. The space heaters looked ugly and took up valuable space. When I mentioned the problems with temperature control in the bedroom to a local HVAC contractor, he recommended a ductless heat pump. I’d never heard of this type of a heating and cooling system. It consists of an outdoor air compressor that links to a very compact indoor unit mounted up high on the walls. The installation required little more than a minor hole in the exterior wall for a conduit and access to electricity. We can now target heating and cooling strictly to the bedroom. The new system is extremely convenient to operate through a cordless remote. It’s super quiet, wonderfully energy efficient and surprisingly powerful. It heats up or cools down the room quickly and maintains an even temperature.
