Most of my life, I simply took any sort of idea of heating and cooling for granted. This was because I rarely had to do anything about it myself. When I was growing up, I hardly thought about it. My dad was so obsessive about the HVAC setting that I just didn’t dare to do anything with the HVAC. Once I was out on my own, I lived in apartments. The HVAC situation in most of those apartments were pretty bad. So that HVAC scenario was pretty underwhelming. And when there was a situation where the HVAC wasn’t working, I simply called the rental office. They sent out a handyman and got it running. However, once I became a homeowner, I also became an HVAC owner. This happened once I was transferred to the south along with a big promotion. I was finally financially equipped to buy a place of my own. That also came with a crash course on HVAC and more specifically, the HVAC heat pump. Until then, I had no idea how the heat pump worked or just how incredible that heating and cooling method really is. I learned that during the summer months, it not only heats the house but is also balancing the humidity levels in the house at the same time. Part of the process of cooling is removing warm air from inside and exhausting it outside. In doing so, it removes humidity from the air. But to heat the house, the heat pump simply reverses the refrigerant flow and brings in heat energy from outside. When necessary, an electric panel heats up to supply extra heat energy. It’s a truly amazingly versatile machine.
