I live in the deep north where it gets legitimately cold frosty in the winter.
These weeks make my electric bills actually actually high! It can be rather tough to combat because it gets so frosty that even a portable space oil furnace with the most high power can not heat the lake beach house plus central heating can.
So what I do is turn down the central heating and run the space oil furnace at the same time so it kind of alternates between the multiple. This isn’t a crucial amount of energy savings as I could have residing in a less frosty temperature, however, the portable space oil furnace does do a little bit of great with the central heating to keep my energy bills a little lower than usual. I have looked on the internet for other methods of energy savings when it comes to the heater, and this is the best that I could find to do. There are some days where the central heating can be completely shut off and the portable space oil furnace will do its task on its own to keep whatever room I am in warm. But this is pretty rare. It is something I have just got used to over time. In the summer time time though we have the advantage. It is hardly needed to even require air conditioner because this temperature is much cooler in general. So when other arenas in the country are cranking their central air conditioners, we are saving lots of energy use not having to use central air conditioner actually much at all.
