Heating and cooling don’t mix

I couldn’t figure out why it was so cold in my house. I didn’t notice it at first. I was watching a horror movie on TV. I thought the chills I was feeling was due to the fear I was feeling. But after the movie ended I got up from the couch and noticed that it was actually freezing cold in my house. I always have the thermostat set to 74 degrees all the time so it shouldn’t have been so cold. I got up to check the thermostat and it was 74 degrees. However, I noticed that the air conditioner was running constantly. It hadn’t turned off since before the movie. Then I figured out why. My roommate’s bedroom door was wide open. My roommate was at work and she usually keeps her room door closed. Today was an exception. My roommate also uses a space heater in her room to stay warm because she is always cold. I should also mention that my thermostat is just outside of my roommates room. So this heated air was hitting my thermostat for the past few hours. Because of this, my thermostat had kept the air conditioner on. After I closed the bedroom door the air conditioner finally kicked off and the house started two warm back up a bit. I’m not looking forward to my electric bill this month though. If it is too high I am going to ask my roommate to pay part of it. Afterall, she is the one who left her room door open with the heater on.
