I was a young man in school once, when I was working in an electronic shop for months at a time.
Mondays and Wednesdays, along with the occasional weekend, I was selling new laptops and other tech gadgets.
With a ticket price of 2,000 dollars or more, there was no shortage of special events to boost sales and profit margins. One time, there was a contest in which we were to push sales and see if anyone could sell the last functional phonograph in the store. That was about the time that Epson printers were really getting big in the market, as they had a special bonus for six months of the year when they first came out! The deal was simple enough: If you happened to sell one Epson printer with any one laptop, a $50 Visa gift card would be awarded to you. Talk about a great incentive! My coworkers and I were all trying our damnedest, pushing Epson printers to everyone walking through the door. Since we had to get the customer to buy a laptop, desktop computer or other high-value item to earn the Visa gift card, many people were dropping into the computer store just to purchase a laptop or desktop computer anyways! It didn’t take too much convincing to get them to add a stylish Epson printer, anyway. The Epson printers were some of the first printers that could offer multi-period printing to their clients, alongside a whole variety of inkjet colors! The product sold itself, really. To sell the printers was the easy part, but selling the ink for the printer? That wasn’t quite so easy. Either way, I still managed to make a lot of extra money that summer!
