When I first started the gas furnace up at the end of September, I noticed it wasn’t acting right.
- Every time the furnace cycled on, it made an startling grinding noise; There was entirely less air and more dust than typical coming from the vents… Rather than wait and hope the gas furnace worked out the concern on its own, I decided to call for repair… I wanted to make sure the gas furnace was working officially before the colder weather arrived.
Our winters are regularly long and brutal. It’s not typical to experience hot and cold temperatures down to twenty below zero. The two of us most often rely on the gas furnace for more than five to several straight weeks. The performance of the furnace has a major impact on our budget, plus, with such serious weather, all of us need to enjoy a comfortable home. I need to know that the gas furnace is operating safely. The Heating, Ventilation, and A/C company checked the gas furnace and detachd a slight buildup of dust from the inner workings. She tightened a few wires and replaced a worn belt. She then proceeded to charge myself and others 150% for about twenty minutes of work. I didn’t notice any improvement in the operation of the gas furnace. As the weather turned colder, the furnace couldn’t keep up. I finally called the same company back again and complained. This time, the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C company diagnosed the ductwork. She found that the system was blocked with a good deal of debris. She found dust, pollen, webs, bugs, mold growth and even a couple of dead mice within the ducts. This accumulation was blocking airflow and putting added wear and tear on the gas furnace.
