My friends and I spent most of the morning golfing in the rain.
- The country club won’t close the course unless there is lightning, and the sky was clear other than the rain clouds.
We were soaked by the ninth hole, but we were having a good time drinking beer and laughing. We have a small waterproof speaker and we were listening to tunes all morning. We could have gone to the clubhouse and sat around in the air conditioning, but the dining room was filled. Everyone was in the building enjoying the cold air conditioning. Even with the resin, the heat and humidity were still awful. I understood why everyone was indoors with a cold beer and burger and the air conditioner, but we used the rare opportunity to get through as many holes as possible. We usually need to wait several times while other groups finish ahead of us, but everyone was in the clubhouse and we finished in record time. We only stopped when there was lightning on the 15th hole and the club manager came out in a cart to tell us to come in. I would have finished the first 18 and started another round if the lightning didn’t stop us. I was hitting good shots, even with rain beating hitting my face, neck, and back. I think the rain and wind was helping with my slice, because I had seven birdies that day. I even hit a birdie on a hole 14 par 5, and that’s due to a power house drive that must have rolled 250 yards.
