A local civic club started their first annual Fourth of July celebration this year at a local lake the parks and recreation department uses for local swimming. It promised to be a great time for the whole family, with food, games, pony rides, a few carnival rides and, of course, swimming and fireworks. It was open all day and promised to be fun, but for one problem, the heat. We live in a tropical area and the heat is vicious in July. The swimming area of the lake is only a few feet deep and for an adult to cool off in the lake, they have to wade in and sit down. I felt ridiculous doing that and I know many adults did, but we didn’t suffer too much. Fortunately, the civic club had taken the heat in consideration. Scattered across the park were large tents that offered air conditioning. After the heat of the day, those air-conditioned tents felt good and people who would otherwise not be able to attend, like my mother, could actually go and be able to enjoy air conditioned comfort when needed. The air-conditioned tents had chairs of course, and tables for people who preferred to eat in air-conditioned comfort, like we did. All and all it turned out to be a great day, and we didn’t suffer all that much from the heat, thanks to those air-conditioned tents. Even my mother came down, after I called her and told her about the air-conditioned tent, and even she had fun. We can’t wait until next year.
