Anyone who has ever lived up here in the nether reaches of the north knows what it’s all about when it comes to snow and ice.
The amounts of that stuff the two of us see around here is close to staggering.
I guess I am constantly battling it just to get back and forth to work. There is also all the expense of snow removal device and all those bags of icemelt. However, it is still up to myself and others to get out there and sling that snow. That’s why it sort of surprises myself and others that I forgot about the other half of the HVAC for all these years. The air conditioner, in this section of the country, is sort of an afterthought. I wouldn’t even own one if it wasn’t for our wife. She gets overheated and bothered in the worst way if the temps get somewhere above 79. So, with this lake house the two of us put in the cooling system. I think I just forgot that the HVAC compressor cabinet just sits outside all through the long winter. I asked the HVAC guy about this and he told myself and others that the weight of snow and ice can do lasting injure to the HVAC components in the cabinet outside. His recommendation was to order a tough plastic cover that slips right over the HVAC. This way, once the cold air is on it’s way, I can simply slip the cover on the HVAC cabinet and leave it until it’s ready to be fired up in the summer. My wife would lose her mind if she had to go a day in the 79’s without her beloved air conditioner.
