Watch the HVAC drip line

I just hate even the thought of water damage.

That’s the sort of thing that haunts my dreams.

I have seen what a leak can do to a home. Not only does it damage floor, appliances and all that, it also invites mold growth on a big time level. Mold remediation is not cheap. This is the main reason that I make sure that my HVAC drip line is never plugged up. Where I live, the HVAC is running much of the year in an effort to cool my home. As the HVAC is doing its job there comes with it an amount of condensate. HVAC systems are designed to have that condensate flow outside through a drip line. But, those drip lines can get all clogged up with grass, leaves and that kind of stuff. I make sure to wet vac the drip line opening on the outside of the house. This pulls out any stuff that could lead to a condensate back up. A buddy of mine had a bunch of stuff ruined in his garage due to condensate back up. The drip line for the HVAC gets plugged and then the water simply overflows the pan under the air handler. The next thing you know it’s running across the floor and damaging anything like boxes or even worse, electrical stuff. It may seem a bit paranoid but, there is just no way that I will let HVAC condensate ruin anything in my house or cause a horrible mold problem. And, it doesn’t take much to prevent such a thing. Just a bit of proactive HVAC maintenance.
